Building Landing Pages – Get it Right the First Time

A couple of years ago I was working with my team to create a modular landing pages template system we could use for building landing pages that worked great. When you get several creative people together, it is really easy to get carried away because each person knows what they believe is important. The graphic designer wants it to be pretty. Everyone is afraid of missing important information.

Unfortunately, the designs we were coming up with were too complex and tests we did with similar designs didn’t do well. The designs we created were too complex and lacked the tight focus of a landing page.

Most of the team was comprised of very gifted, but also inexperienced professionals. Together we built great product pages but several lacked an understanding of how landing pages are different and what best practices apply to landing page design.

I realized they needed some guidance so we could come together and do this job well.  This is the slide deck I created as part of the class I taught to the team.

In the end I was able to convince our CEO to use Unbounce.  Unbounce is very easy to use, even for non-programmers and has both analytics and A/B testing built in so it’s easy to measure effectiveness. If you really want a tool for building landing pages that is fast and easy, give Unbounce a  try.  They are also a fabulous resource for great ideas.
